Anake Camper Volunteer Program
For campers currently in grade 9

When a camper enrolls in their final year as an Adventurer they are welcome to also enroll as a Anake Camper Volunteer that same summer.  "Anake" is the Akamba word for "Warrior" and it refers to someone who puts the needs of others at the same level as their own.  This is what we expect of our counselling staff team and the Anake Camper Volunteer Program provides campers with a glimpse into that role in the camp community.  Anake Volunteers are campers who get to stay at camp for an entire week of the summer and work behind the scenes to make Camp Warwa even more amazing.   There is always something to do at camp, and our Anake Volunteers will be right in the center of the action.  Anake volunteers will also get to spend time learning leadership skills direclty from our counselors, and get to help out with a group of younger campers.  Anakes help with dishes, cleaning, setting up games, and in all manner of tasks that help the community.  This is a great oppurtunity for campers to learn what it is like to be a counselor and to gain experience that can help them apply to be a Junior Counselor next year.

No charge for Anake Volunteer program, although campers must also be enrolled in one of our Adventurer programs or have attended Camp Warwa in the past.

Where is the C.I.T Program?

For many years, Camp Warwa has been running a very successful CIT (Counselor in Training) program for campers currently in grade 10.  Campers who graduated this program were invited to apply to work at camp as Junior Counselors in their grade 11 summer and would often go on to become full counselors the following year.  In 2018 we will not be offering a CIT program for campers to enroll in.  Instead, campers in grade 10 can now apply directly to work as a full Junior Conselor a whole year earlier!

We have found that the quality of campers coming out of our summer camp programs has become so high that requiring youth to spend a whole extra summer as a CIT is holding them back from their potential.  All the training and bonding that the CIT program provided exists as part of our staff training program, so grade 10 campers need not worry about missing out on key experiences.  We are excited to welcome our grade 10 campers into our staff team and are fully confident in their ability to succeed and thrive in the role of Junior Counselor.  Note that Junior Counselors are not necessarily required to work the entire summer, and can choose to sign up to work weeks of camp that fit into their schedule.  If you are currently in grade 10, go to the Staff Section of the website to learn how to apply for the best summer job of your life.
