Executive Director Gerrit Leewes, or "Wind", has been with camp since 2004. In addition to his many years of professional camp experience, Gerrit has a BA in Recreation from the U of A, and experience at two other Alberta camps. He began his career with Camp Warwa as a instructor and worked as Program Director before becoming Camp Director and then Executive Director. He is the Past President of the Alberta Camping Association and would like to invite all our families and clients to never hesitate in contacting camp with their questions.
Gerrit, his wife Faith and his three boys Erik, Connor and Jack are looking forward to another year filled with great memories!
Our Administrator, Joeanne, has been with Warwa since 2009. She works with all our outdoor education clients and with all of our summer camp families. She is the friendly voice on the phone when you call camp and is happy to answer any questions you have about camp. She is also a master of caring for bees and making delicious honey outside of camp.
Justine (Gaia) is a familiar face here at Camp Warwa. She has previously travelled all over Central America, spending most of her time in Guatemala before returning to Alberta to join the leadership team. She loves canoeing, and is always excited for tofu meals! Justine is excited to provide the best experience for anyone who visits Camp Warwa, whether it's their first or hundredth visit.
Brian (Torch) has been working and studying in the Outdoor Education field since 2001. He has a college diploma in Community Recreation and Leadership Training from Dawson College and an honours bachelors degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies: Outdoor Recreation from Brock University. He has previously worked at camps in Quebec, Pennsylvania, Nova Scotia, and Ontario. He also spent 5 years working with youth at-risk in Corpus Christi, TX and has been a member of Scouts Canada for over 30 years.
Brian is excited to be at Camp Warwa and help make everyone’s stay at Camp the best it can be!
Emma (Spark) has been working in outdoor education and camping for over 8 years, and is excited to join the Camp Warwa team! Previously, she has worked at various camps and outdoor ed organizations in Ontario and Alberta. Emma’s favorite camp activities are canoeing and campfires. When she’s not at camp, you can find her hiking, snowshoeing, or enjoying a big cup of coffee.
Emma has an honours degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Guelph, focusing on food and environment. She is passionate about creating a comfortable space for children to learn and explore. Emma is very excited to create memories with the entire Camp Warwa family!
