    Information & Standards

  •

ACA Standards require counselors to have a minimum of 48 hours of pre-camp training.

On average, all Camp Warwa Counsellors recieve 300 hours of pre-camp training.

  • Pre-camp training covers not only program instruction, but also includes:

    Emergency Response

    Awareness of Special Needs

    Age Specific Characteristics

    Positive Rolemodelling

  •

Each cabin group is supervised by two counsellors, at least one of whom is over 18 years of age.

All counsellors hold current Wilderness First Aid and CPR training.

  • All staff members who transport campers on their out trips have a Class 4 Professional Drivers Licence.

Every out trip route is scouted and assested by our Out Tripping Coordinator, as well as the staff leading the trip, prior to Camp.

  • Staff are trained to support campers through a many situations including homesickness, proper hygiene, and making new friends.

The emotional well-being of our campers is extremley important and every possible step is taken to ensure their comfort and saftey.

  • Each counselor supervises their group the entire week and leads them through all their programs.  This allows them to get to know and support each child.

The counselors also stay in the same cabin as their group, although not in the same room, and so are even present during the nightime.

  • Staff who lead canoe programs and trips have the appropriate certifications in either Flat Water Canoeing or Moving Water Canoeing.

All canoeing training and certifications are issued through Paddle Alberta and/or Paddle Canada.

  • Proper nutrition, hygeine and food handling procedures are followed both in our Dining Hall, and while on out trips.

Full accomdations are always made for any allergies or special dietary needs that our campers have.

  • All swimming programs are always supervised by a fully trained and certified lifeguard.

Our staff are not only skilled at camping, but they are well versed in how to teach children camping skills in a proper and safe way.

  • The majority of our staff are pursuing careers in Education, Outdoor Pursuits and/or childcare and are committed to the highest level of professional service.

Our counselors come from a wide range of backgrounds and promote both openness and inclusiveness.

  • Our Executive Director Gerrit Leewes has been working in the Alberta Camping Industry for over 13 years.

He along with our Camp Director and Operations Manager are always available to answer questions and assist families with registration.
