Helping to Make a Difference
There are many ways to participate in the Camp Warwa community and help contribute to making a difference in the lives of our campers. Your time at camp does not have to stop at just being a camper or staff member; there are lots of ways to get involved!
Support a Camp Event
There are several one day or weekend events throughout the year where alumni volunteers can really help make a difference. We can always use help during the event itself, but also with planning and set up. Upcoming events include:
On several weekends throughout the year, camp organizes volunteer workdays. On these days, small but mighty groups of people band together to tackle a camp project. We build decks, shingle roofs, and complete all manner of other tasks. Everyone is welcome, and there are projects for all skill levels and interest. Childcare will be available during work project times, so you can bring the whole family.
The next weekend workday will be scheduled soon for fall 2016!
There are four governance committees that support and direct the growth of Camp Warwa. Each of these committees is makes recommendations to the Camp Warwa Board of Directors, and has a board member as its chair. Committees meet as needed: at least once a season or as much as once a month, depending on what they are working on.
This committee supports the internal relations and culture of camp. It's portfolio includes human resources, financial oversight, conflict resolution, staff training, board recruitment and supporting the camp director. This year the committee has been leading the board through the development of our new strategic plan, as well as recruiting new board and committee members.
These folks support camp's connections and relationships beyond our staff and campers. The portfolio encompases donor relations, fundraising strategies, alumni engagement and growing the camp community. In 2016 the committee is just getting started and is eager to work with new members on projects such as engaging our alumni and garnering support for our new dining facility.
The facility committee is responsible for planning capital development projects as well as the long term health and upkeep of the faciltiy. This committee is just wrapping up the planning for our new seasonal staff residences, and is activley working on the development plan for our new dining facility.
This committee is newly formed in 2016. While it is currently still looking for a few more members, we don't anticipate that will be the case for long. The Program Committee works closely with our camp staff to develop and guide the programming we provide for our campers. They also focus on risk managment and the camper experience. This committee is currently planning our new Day Camps, Weekend Camps, as well as Spring Break Camp 2017.
Join one of the most committed teams of people you'll ever meet, and help us make a difference in the lives of children. Volunteering to serve as a Camp Warwa Board Member can be an extremly rewarding experince and a great way to give your time and talent. There are a couple board positions currently open, and our Board President Ian Hosler would love to talk with you more about how you can join the Board of Directors.
